Specialist Production Systems
Traditional Beef
ABP Ellesmere is the exclusive home of Traditional Beef, a product which was developed using revolutionary maturation processes. To supply this, the Traditional Beef Club was conceived in the mid-1980’s, and comprises approximately 900 farmers who produce cattle for Sainsbury’s ‘Traditional Beef’ range. This is a premium range of products, which undergoes extra-maturation, and comes from livestock produced under specific farming practices. Cattle must be reared extensively on farm assured farms, adhere to higher welfare standards, be fed a non-genetically modified diet, and demonstrate environmentally sensitive production policies. In return, farmers receive a bonus on cattle, which meet the specification outlined, & meet the weight and grade requirements.

Organics
All organic livestock must be certified under one of the UKROFS approved schemes.

Full details about ABP Ellesmere’s livestock procurement can be obtained by contacting the Livestock Manager. Bob Chappell
